Examiners and Moderators

WJEC is committed to ensuring that each candidate's script is marked and assessed fairly and accurately. Examiners and Moderators are vital to the delivery of WJEC qualifications and we employ thousands of teachers, retired teachers, further education lecturers and education specialists to ensure that the quality of our marking is maintained.

WJEC core values for assessment

Knowledge and expertise: we work with professionals from within the education sector with a wealth of knowledge to set, mark and moderate our papers.

Quality assurance: we are committed to providing fair and accurate assessment. This is achieved through on-going training for Examiners and Moderators and thorough quality checks prior to examination results being issued.

Continual development: we provide comprehensive training and support to our Examiners and Moderators which includes personal training and face-to-face meetings to discuss the marking scheme and extensive support through the assessment process.

Progression: we recognise and reward Examiners and Moderators and encourage them to apply for more senior positions within the assessment process where appropriate.

Advanced technology: we are committed to using new technologies to enhance the quality of our assessment. This technology includes Electronic Marketing Input System (EMI) which is used for the majority of our assessments and CMI+ for e-processed scripts, which are marked on-screen.
