What is a private candidate?
Private candidates are those who pursue a course of study independently but take an examination or assessment at an approved WJEC Eduqas school or college.
Responsibilities of a private candidate?
A private candidate is responsible for making appropriate arrangements with a school or college that is prepared to:
(a) make the necessary examination accommodation available and; (b) assess and authenticate any centre-based components.Due to the assessment criteria for some of our specifications (i.e. controlled assessment), it is important that private candidates make arrangements with a school or college before starting their studies. WJEC can only accept entries for candidates who have an arrangement with a centre to accommodate all aspects of the relevant examination.
Procedures and Processes
Detailed information relating to the procedures for private candidates can be found in our Information for private Candidates guide.
