Coronavirus: Ofqual consultation decisions on changes to summer 2021 exams and assessments

Today, Ofqual has announced the outcomes of its recent consultation on changes to make to GCE and GCSE exams and assessments in summer 2021 due to the disruption to teaching and learning from last March when schools and colleges closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Exams Boards will be required to make changes to 15 A level subjects, and 25 GCSEs and these include:

  • changes to how content is assessed in GCSE geography, history
  • changes to GCSE English literature, to introduce a choice of topics on which students are required to answer questions in their exams
  • changes to the requirement for a specified number of days of fieldwork in a number of subjects, including geography and geology
  • spoken language skills in GCSE modern foreign language GCSEs will be assessed through a teacher endorsement alongside the 9 to 1 grade
  • a range of modifications to the non-exam assessment arrangements in a number of subjects such as GCSE food preparation and nutrition, GCSE, AS and A level music and GCSE physical education, to accommodate potential public health requirements.

WJEC Eduqas welcomes Ofqual’s decisions and will shortly provide up to date information on these changes on the qualification pages of our website.
