Important Update – 18/08/2020: Vocational and other general qualifications
Following the announcement by the Secretary of State that candidates entered for GCSE, GCE AS and A Level qualifications this summer will be awarded the higher of their calculated grade or the grade submitted by their centre, we have undertaken an urgent review of our vocational and other general qualifications which are designed to be taken alongside GCSEs and GCE AS and A Levels and which followed a similar approach to determining results.
Following this review, we can confirm that results for the following WJEC qualifications will also be awarded on the basis of the higher of the calculated grade or the grade submitted by the centre:
- Entry Level Certificates in Maths, English and Science
- Level 1 and Level 2 Certificates in Latin Language and Latin Language and Roman Civilisation
- Level 1/2 Vocational Awards and Certificates
- Level 2 Certificate in Additional Maths
- Level 3 Applied Certificates and Diplomas
This ensures that the approach to awarding grades for our vocational qualifications is consistent with the approach taken for GCSE and GCE qualifications.
Initial results for our Level 3 Applied Certificates and Diplomas were released to candidates on 14th August 2020. We are processing the results and aim to get updated grades to centres by the end of the day on Friday.
Results for our Entry Level Certificates and Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications will be released to candidates on Thursday 20th August 2020. These results will reflect the change in approach outlined above.
We offer a range of Vocational and Technical Qualifications (VTQs) with differing structures and assessment and grading arrangements. This change of approach does not apply to the following qualifications which were calculated using a different method and did not involve statistical adjustments:
- Entry Pathway qualifications
- Modern Language Units
- Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design
IMPORTANT UPDATE: 17/8/2020
We accept the change in policy issued by Roger Taylor, Chair, Ofqual today to issue GCSE, AS and A level results on the basis of teacher/lecturer supplied Centre Assessment Grades.
Our team will now implement this change in policy in the issuing of GCSE grades. We are currently preparing reissuing AS and A level grades to learners following this change in policy.
Discussions are on-going to determine the approach to vocational qualifications. Once we have more information to share, we will make it available on our website. We thank you for your continued patience.
On Wednesday 12th August the government announced that learners will be able to receive ‘valid mock grades’, if they are not happy with their calculated grades. We understand that learners, schools and colleges will have questions about this. Ofqual has published a statement which confirms that more detail will be provided early next week.
