Awarding body welcomes Curriculum and Assessment review

Leading awarding body WJEC, which operates as Eduqas in England, welcomes the government’s recent Curriculum and Assessment review. 

Commenting on the announcement, Ian Morgan, WJEC’s Chief Executive, said: ‘We look forward to working closely with our partners, including the DfE and Ofqual, to support the ambitions of the national curriculum.’ 

‘As the third largest GCSE provider in England and with over 75 years of expertise in qualification development and delivery, Eduqas is committed to supporting the government’s long-term goals and with helping learners to develop the skills and knowledge to thrive in a modern world. This announcement provides greater clarity for the sector and will encourage learners to study a greater breadth of GCSE subjects to enhance their skillset,’ he added. 

The review announced a series of key reforms to support learners including: 

  • Ensuring learners study media and financial literacy 

  • Encourage learners to study a greater breadth of GCSE subjects 

  • Exploring a new language qualification
