Summer 2022: Adaptations to GCSE and AS/A level qualifications

Eduqas Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualifications approved for DfE funding

We are delighted to confirm that the following reformed Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualifications have been approved by the Department for Education (DfE) for funding from September 2026:

> Certificate and Extended Certificate in Food Science and Nutrition

> Certificate in Medical Science

The Extended Certificate in Medical Science was approved for funding from September 2025.

Commenting on this development is Sarah Harris, Assistant Director: Qualifications Development (VTQ and Skills):

“We’re proud to be the sole provider of the Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification in Food Science and Nutrition, which provides a rigorous and rewarding progression route for learners across England completing GCSE Food and Nutrition and our Tech Award in Hospitality and Catering.

Alongside this, our recently reformed Certificate and Extended Certificate in Medical Science open up exciting opportunities for learners to explore human health through a fresh and applied lens.

As our portfolio of Level 3 qualifications continues to expand, we’re offering centres and learners more choice than ever—across subject areas, assessment styles, and progression routes.”
