Latest news regarding unit entries and outcomes for our Level 1/2 Vocational Awards (updated 30/06/2020)

We recently communicated our intention to not award unit outcomes for our suite of Level 1/2 Vocational Awards. We took this decision to minimise the burden for centres in requiring them to provide Centre Assessment Grades (CAGs) at both qualification and unit level. This decision applied to learners who are part-way through their qualification and due to complete their qualification in summer 2021, for example learners in Year 10 completing unit only assessments in summer 2020.

We outlined our intention to provide an opportunity for learners to sit the assessments that were cancelled in summer 2020 at a later date prior to our Summer 2021 examination and assessment period, whilst also indicating that we intend to make some adaptations to these qualifications (subject to agreement by our regulators) to reduce the teaching and learning burden on learners, teachers and centre staff during the 2020/2021 academic year.

We have continued to discuss these proposals with Ofqual and have taken account of feedback from our centres across England and Wales. In light of these discussions we have taken a decision to allow centres to submit centre assessed grades for learners studying our Level 1/2 Vocational Award qualifications who were due to take unit assessments this summer, where teachers believe they have sufficient information and evidence to make this judgement. We have been advising centres not to withdraw candidate entries this summer. If you did withdraw an entry on the basis that unit grades would not be awarded, please do not contact our entries team until we inform you of the date for the re-entries window. Only entries previously made and withdrawn will be accepted, no new unit entries will be accepted.

We will be communicating the process for centres to determine and submit unit centre assessment grades and rank order for eligible learners in early July.

Centres should continue to submit their centre assessment grades for learners completing Level 1/2 Vocational Awards and Certificates and Level 3 Applied Certificate and Diploma this summer by 19^th June 2020 as previously communicated.
